Is Meat Good For You?

OK, I was sitting at my desk getting ready to write a blog about this topic when I read an email by Dr. John Berardi, Nutritionist, Trainer and developer of the Precision Nutrition program (of which I am a big fan).

“JB” as he is affectionately called; has recently been flirting with vegetarianism. What many people will quickly realize by reading Gourmet Nutrition and Gourmet Nutrition Vol. 2 is that JB, has long focused on meat as the main source of protein in his dietary recommendations. What many people do not know is that with the newest version of the Precision Nutrition program, JB has been stealthily adding more and more info about plant-based dietary recommendations.

Anyone who has read The China Study by T. Colin Campbell will feel a little anxious about eating meat. As a “recovering” vegetarian of 10-years. I still don’t eat too much meat and when I combine the ideas in The China Study the idea that “…meat should be more of a side-dish…” as propagated in Michael Pollen’s book, In Defense of Food, it’s hard for me to be a raging meat eater and even harder for me to recommend or condone eating large quantities of meat.

Well, instead of continuing on this long, rambling stream of consciousness about whether or not meat is good for you, I’ll pass along a link to a blog entry by JB about this same issue, click on the following link for the “essay”, Dr. John Berardi’s “Meat” Article.
