Toxicity and Diabetes
A journal article in the January 2000 issue of ”Epidemiology” found that Air Force veterans who had reason to suspect exposure to dioxins, had an increased risk for contracting diabetes. In the Optimum Function Functional Detoxification manual, I talk about a study by the EPA that showed 100% of the fat samples from cadavers in the US had dioxins in them! EVERY SINGLE ONE!
Dioxins are mainly by products of industrial processes but may also be produced during natural processes, such as forest fires and volcanic eruptions. Dioxins are unwanted by products of a wide range of manufacturing processes including smelting, chlorine bleaching of paper pulp and the manufacturing of some herbicides and pesticides. Dioxins may be released into the environment through waste incineration (solid waste and hospital waste), these are often the worst culprits, due to incomplete burning.
Environmental distribution of dioxins is global they are found throughout the world. The highest levels of these compounds are found in some soils, sediments and food, especially dairy products, meat, fish and shellfish. Very low levels are found in plants, water and air.

A study in Vancouver B.C. in 2002 showed that higher fat content in dairy products meant increased presence of PDBEs. Polybrominated diphenyl esters are a toxic chemical used to make materials “flame retardant”. These chemicals are banned in many European countries because the risk of daily exposure to them is not worth the benefit of having flame retardant materials. These potential risks include cancer.
